2022: The Year In Review:
Well, thankfully things have slowly started happening again. We will
attempt to give you a rundown of what was relevant to our ears.
Venues: We were blessed again to have
a handful of venues willing to book local original acts so cheers to Xeroz,
The Caveau, Timber Lounge, Miss Cue and the Tide & Boar. Please take the time to step outside your cozy routine and support the musicians, the venues and the record stores.
Bands: Three Speed, a
pop-punk trio featuring scene vets Jerms O'Neill and Billy Gallant, made their
live debut in April, released a full length CD and are already planning their new album... 1990's Alt-rock quartet, Thee Suddens played a
jam-packed reunion show at Xeroz back in September. It was their first gig in decades... The Robins, the city's oldest punks, also played
their first gig in years and introduced a few new songs into the set...
East End Rivals are a new streetpunk/oi trio featuring ex-members of
Parlour Tricks, The Atlantix and Sour Grapes. They should be making their
debut sometime early in the new year... Funeral Fog, this city's
premier black metal act (featuring Claude from Nerve Button and Mark from the
Robins, have just released their third album through Ancient Temple Recordings.
Cassette and CD formats currently available with vinyl coming soon...
Neuropleptix are an impressive new Saint-John based quartet featuring
brothers Mel and Mike formerly of The Virals. They recently opened for Three Speed at their
album release show and we hope to hear more... Expired are set to drop a new CD early in the new year... The Phone Jerks, lo-fi
90's garage merchants, have officially called it a day after their last show
supporting Hard Charger in October. All the members will be busy with current
projects or future endeavours... The Follow-Ups and Zero Zero UFO will both be in the studio soon recording for their respective second albums... The Gregories managed to release their sophmore album late in the year and finally.... Moncton's Burning is a very recent 18 song vinyl-only compilation featuring local punk/alternative bands from the past few years. Tracks by Yves Bourque, Bruce, The Disasterbaters, Slashdance, Nerve Button, The Robins, Leather Jackal, Whoregasms, City Bus Hand Jobs, Impulse Items, TJ Cabot, Phone Jerks, Three Speed, Zero Zero UFO, Klackers, Small Package, The Follow-Ups and Another Dose.
